Hosted by the Kansas Volunteer Commission, AmeriCorps members gathered to share with Legislators and the general public about the service work they are doing all across the state of Kansas.

We reconnect with former eeCorps members to explore how their service year shaped their career paths. Each story highlights the unique paths members have taken after completing their term -whether they continued in environmental education (EE) or carried their experience into a new field, one thing remains consistent: their eeCorps year played a pivotal role in where they are today.

The Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education (KACEE) held its 25th annual Topeka Water Festival at Garfield Park in Topeka, Kansas on Thursday, September 18, 2025, hosting over 600 area 4th graders to learn about water!

Environmental work is not just about natural science. Solutions to environmental issues require collaboration across disciplines. It’s impossible to be an expert in all these areas, but we can learn enough to communicate with other people who are, and recognize what different fields contribute to the shared goal.

My involvement with KACEE led to incredible opportunities. I was honored to serve on the development committee for the Kansas Environmental Literacy Plan, represent the state at the NAAEE ee360 Leadership Conference, and participate in the Kansas Solutioneers project. In 2015, I was nominated to the KACEE Board of Directors, where I proudly served for ten years, including time as Board President.

HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) students joined us May 31, 2025 from across Kansas for a hands-on service project with a powerful environmental mission. KACEE was thrilled to host this inspiring group of young leaders as they rolled up their sleeves and got to work on an impactful—and creative—project: building pollinator hotels!

On Friday, April 25, 2025, after business hours, the Kansas Volunteer Commission received word that the entire state AmeriCorps Program has been terminated. KACEE's eeCorps Program is one of their state grantees.
