Celebrate AmeriCorps Week with us! March 9-15, 2025
This AmeriCorps Week, we're sharing the powerful stories of how #AmeriCorpsWorks. National service turns everyday acts into extraordinary change.
It's AmeriCorps Week! Meet our Kansas eeCorps service members: Led by the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education (KACEE), the Environmental Education Corps (eeCorps) AmeriCorps Program places AmeriCorps members at organizations throughout Kansas to focus on increasing environmental literacy for PreK-12 students and building capacity for environmental education in the region.
My name is Sereniti, an AmeriCorps service member currently serving at the Ernie Miller Park and Nature Center in Olathe, Kansas!
I’m training to educate the community about conservation and Kansas' native animals like the Eastern Screech Owl, Bull Snake, Barred Tiger Salamander, and more.
Nature has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, and I’m so grateful for the chance to do what I love while sharing this knowledge with others.
I’m so excited to develop my future and to inspire others to appreciate and protect the wildlife around us!
Hello, I’m Morgan Leeper! I just graduated from Pittsburg State University (PSU) with a Bachelor’s in Psychology last December. I started serving as an AmeriCorps member at the PSU Nature Reach this January.
Being an AmeriCorps service member is an awesome way to help our community in a positive way while also growing and learning countless of super cool things!
Within the short time that I have served here, I have been able to help present at programs, take care of the animals, and help trim birds of prey beaks and talons.
I’ve also learned more about how to schedule/plan programs and events, leadership roles, a lot of interesting facts about animals, and much more!
Did you know that prairie dogs will bare their teeth and “kiss” each other as a friendly greeting? Or that American Kestrels are one of the only birds of prey that you can tell their gender based on their color?
Also, many amazing animals are sadly declining due to pollution and habitat loss. What we do today can help change the lives of many animals in either a bad or good way. So, I am making it my mission to help leave a good impact on the environment by picking up trash, using more eco-friendly products, along with reusing, reducing, and recycling more items!
My name is Annika Anzjon, and I am an AmeriCorps member serving at the Great Plains Nature Center in Wichita, KS!
Although most of my background lies in marine biology, I grew up not far from Wichita and have a deep love and respect for our region's native flora and fauna.
At the Great Plains Nature Center, I dedicate much of my time towards developing and presenting environmental education programs to students of all ages in an effort to increase environmental literacy in our area.
I might not have seen myself going into environmental education a few years ago, but I've fallen in love with the field and look back fondly on all the memories I've created over the last several months.
One of my favorite memories so far was during our Kansas Day event back in January. While hosting one of the booths, I discussed upcoming spring break programs with children and families passing through.
Knowing that I've made an impact on even just one student fills my heart with such joy.

My name is Prakriti Ravi, and I am an AmeriCorps member serving at Great Plains Nature Center in Wichita, KS!
I am passionate about the Kansas prairie and love to learn about native plants and grasses.
Part of serving with AmeriCorps at this site involves handling our animal ambassadors to educate the community about the importance of native Kansas ecosystems.
I have learned so much about the environment since serving at GPNC and enjoy spreading my knowledge through educational programs. I love sharing my love for nature and conservation with other people!
