Final changes have been made to the Environmental Education Standards for Kansas, a document which reflects the breadth of environmental education and KACEE's goal of environmental literacy for all Kansans. The standards, which are non-mandatory, were developed by a committee of educators and natural resource professionals under a grant from the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. KACEE would like to express its deepest thanks to the standards team:
We greatly appreciate all of the hours of dedication and hard work the standards team provided during the past 18 months.
Work will now begin to correlate these standards to the Kansas core curricular standards and to KACEE-sponsored environmental education programs. If you are interested in working on the correlations, or if you would like a copy of the standards, please contact:
Shari Wilson, Project Director, at: (913)287-6879 or swilson@kacee.org.
The EE Standards for Kansas were based upon the Excellence in Environmental Education Guidelines for Learning (Pre K-12) (revised 2004). The EE Guidelines for Learning viewed at: http://naaee.org/pages/npeee/learner_guidelines.html.
