KACEE Endowment Funds

KACEE's Future:  The Next 40 Years...It's Up to You!

KACEE has come a long way in 40 years. We’ve grown from an entirely volunteer organization with a small budget of less than $20,000 to a very robust organization with staff and hundreds of volunteers that help to carry out our mission. Each year, staff, board and volunteers help to deliver programs and services for environmental education and impact thousands of Kansans each year. We’ve done a good job of establishing private/public partnerships to provide the financial support necessary to do this great work, but we need YOUR HELP!

Why We Need Your Help

Each year, support for KACEE programs comes from private and public funding sources, most of which are designated for specific projects such as the delivery of Project Learning Tree, Project WET, Project WILD, Project WILD Aquatic and the Leopold Education Project workshops for educators. However, many of these generous supporters provide this funding on a reimbursement basis. That means that KACEE has to deliver the services and then request reimbursements for these activities. While our programs are adequately funded, this means that KACEE needs a cash reserve to cover our costs until reimbursements are made. It can often be a struggle to keep operations going while we wait for reimbursements to be made and that’s where you come in.

Stability and Sustainability for EE in Kansas: Our Plan

The KACEE Board of Directors has established two endowment funds in order to address these short term cash flow challenges and long term sustainability of the organization.

Flexible Endowment Account: The first account is a flexible endowment account, which allows funds within the account to be internally borrowed to cover operating costs while we await reimbursement from funders. That money will be paid back to the endowment account when reimbursements are made, plus interest! We’ll continue to grow this account with the hopes that we can fund the account to the level where the interest alone will help KACEE to address temporary cash flow issues. Funding Goal: $75,000

Traditional Endowment Account: The second account is set up in a traditional way—your donations go into the endowment account and the interest generated from the account helps to provide general support for KACEE programs and services. Funding Goal: $100,000

Our first priority is addressing the temporary cash flow issues KACEE faces each year by fully funding the Flexible Endowment Account, so we encourage you to consider a donation there first. The traditional endowment account promotes a stronger, more stable and sustainable organization, so we look at fully funding that account as a long-term goal.

Why We Need Your Help Today!

The state budget is likely to go through some fairly significant cuts and unfortunately, environmental education may fall to the wayside. Therefore, we’ve set a goal of raising $75,000 to create a stronger and more sustainable organization and we need to meet this goal by June 30, 2010, so we can start the next state fiscal year off in good shape!
