There is actually 7 schools in the Waconda watershed that are involved in the E.A.R.T.H. program. Only two of the schools could attend due to scheduling conflicts however the waterfestival got started because of the schools involvement in the E.A.R.T.H. program.
The most unique thing about our waterfestival is the water plant and treatment plant tours. Many individuals dont realize where the water comes from before it comes out of the faucet or where it goes after it goes down the drain. The Osborne treatment plant uses lagoons therefore students got to see exactly what goes down the drain and where it goes. There were items floating on top the water that were great examples of things not to flush. Most of the students really enjoyed these tours.
The biggest challenge was finding a date that worked for everyone. For the current school year, well try to set a date earlier in the year and plan a fall festival. Also, finding presenters can be a challenge when dealing with several schedules.
