Connecting EE to Core Curricular Standards

Aligning Environmental Education Activities to National Standards

For the first time in the nation’s history, the United States has released a common set of national standards with a singular focus on getting all of America’s students prepared to succeed in college and/or their careers. The key skills articulated in the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards are essential tools required for students to be functionally literate, but they go beyond basic reading, writing, science and math skills to include critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis. These standards are shaping education in the United States. Linking environmental education and these national education standards is essential.

Currently, Project Learning Tree and Project WET are corrleated to the national standards.
